Every player handles success differently. Sometimes when players make it to the top level of professional athletics, they stop working, or get caught up in the lifestyle of a professional athlete.

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt isn’t one of those players. In fact, he gets teased by teammates for being “too busy to have a personal life.”

Watt had the perfect response, and some words that every rookie in any sport should read.

“I have a limited amount of time to build a career out of football and be the best that I can be at this job,” Watt said. “When this job (football) is over, I have the rest of my life to do what I want with my time.

“Right now my job is to watch film and, workout, and treat my body right. When I get done with football, then I can relax and drink as many beers as I want and hang out and be a regular guy. Right now, I am a football player and I will sacrifice whatever is necessary to be the best.”

That is the attitude all professional athletes should have. Your career only lasts so long, might as well make the most of it while they can. If they succeed, and handle their finances well, they can be set up for the rest of their lives and have all the free time in the world.
