The Toronto Blue Jays took another hit to their promising 2014 season on Thursday. Adam Lind will be out for six to eight weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his right foot.

Before we proceed, the reader should understand that there’s a lot happening with this Lind injury. That starts with the fact that he underwent an MRI in the first place because his mom told him to. It turns out Lind has been playing hurt for a while now and planned to continue doing so, if not for the wise decision on his part to listen to his mother.

From the Toronto Star:

"“My mom wanted me to get an MRI, which I hadn’t had yet,” Lind said. “It wasn’t getting any better, so I asked for an MRI and it showed up. The doctors here said six to eight weeks. I’m going to go to Charlotte on Friday, see the doctor there. They’re hoping it’s a better diagnosis than the doctors here.”"

More interesting yet is the fact that Lind only continued to play because he was told that the injury was a bruise and that he would not make it any worse by continuing to play. With it presented to him as a pain tolerance injury, he trudged onward. If not for the wisdom of Lind’s mother, he might still be playing on a fractured foot.

"“I don’t know if I’m surprised,” he said. “They just said a bone bruise (in Baltimore). They said you couldn’t do any more damage. I wasn’t showing any improvement and I’d had enough, really. I needed another exam, an X-ray and a CT scan.”"

Lind has been having an interesting season the Blue Jays. His power is slightly down but he has been a productive offensive player overall with a .320/.389/.489 slash line. The Blue Jays will hope that Lind is able to return in short order after his foot heals.
