The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t sign LeBron James and they are apparently out of the running to land Carmelo Anthony. As we prepare to enter the second weekend of free agency in the NBA, only one of those statements is true.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

After hearing that the Chicago Bulls have stormed out of nowhere to regain the lead as the team most likely to land Carmelo Anthony this summer, the Lakers aren’t as dead in the water as was being reported towards the middle of the week and into last night.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers are in fact not out of the running yet on Carmelo Anthony despite rumors to the contrary last night.

The Lakers have been all over the map when it comes to Carmelo Anthony rumors as they’ve been laughed at for even trying, have jumped u as frontrunners and have fallen off the map only to seemingly come back into the game in the 11th hour of being able to do so.

This doesn’t mean that the Lakers will indeed sign Carmelo, but it means that they’re still int he running and adding Jeremy Lin might sway their chances of landing Carmelo if they think they can use him as a selling tool.
