The excitement throughout the state of Ohio has reached far and wide with the announcement from LeBron James that he has decided to return home and sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Naturally, Cavaliers fans have been celebrating all afternoon since the news broke on SI.com that LeBron is leaving the Miami Heat and heading back to his home state and playing for the team that drafted him first overall after a standout career at St. Vincent-St. Mary high school in Akron, Ohio.

James referred to his four years with the Heat as his college experience, but if the NBA had a rule in place that forced James to attend college for a year as the currently mandates, he has said on the record he would have attended Ohio State.

It was Buckeyes head football coach, Urban Meyer, who welcomed James back home on Friday afternoon.

Meyer will invite James to as many games as he can possibly attend at The Horseshoe this fall in Columbus and don’t sleep on the star power that LeBron has as a draw for potential Ohio State recruits.

Just like Meyer has used Tim Tebow as a recruiting tool at Florida and early in his Ohio State career, you better believe LeBron’s return to the state can have a positive impact on the biggest football team in the state, sorry Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns fans, but it’s true the Buckeyes own the state, but now they’ll have to share it with LeBron.
