Few companies can say that they have a logo so recognizable that they are simply able to flash an image on the screen, and consumers are immediately able to assimilate that image with a product.  Neversoft was a company that can say they achieved that level of success.  Unfortunately, Neversoft is no more.

Whether it was the grinding through the warehouse in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, or you were rocking out while playing Guitar Hero, the iconic skewered eyeball logo reigned supreme.

Revealed back in May, Neversoft was set to merge with Infinity Ward, and in turn, team up to create a very strong “super studio.”  Neversoft has already worked with Infinity Ward as well in helping the studio with Call of Duty: Ghosts just last year.

As with anything great, all things come to an end.  For Neversoft, the most fitting way to retire the skewered eye logo was to let it go out in some burning flames of glory.

The studio also made sure to give each employee a nice parting gift, hopefully none of them were running to show off their new toy.

Neversoft is one of the few gaming studios that has seen success to the levels they have experienced.  Initially founded in 1994, Neversoft has been the only a handlful of companies who can claim to have had multiple launch titles on a console, in launching Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland and Gun on the Xbox 360.

The company has gone through many ups and downs, watching the rise and fall of both Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero, but it is without a doubt that they are largely responsible for the advancement of gaming.  Sad to see them go, it will be interesting to see what’s next for the newly formed Infinity Ward studio.
