After meeting with five teams and being rumored to be going to a few others, Carmelo Anthony has decided to sign a max contract with the New York Knicks.
"A few years ago I dreamed of coming back to New York City, the place of my birth, and on February 23, 2011 that became a reality. This organization has supported me and in return, I want to stay and build here with this city and my team. At this pivotal juncture in my career, I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me. Through it all, my heart never wavered."
The decision comes after Melo took a week to be pampered by the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks. Each of the meetings looked promising but only one ended up prevailing in it’s goal of convincing Melo he needed to sign with them.
His career started back in Denver with the Nuggets in 2002 and it’s amazing to think the Melo has been kicking around that long. He’s always been a superstar but he’s only now hitting his prime and he’s never been a hotter asset than he was during his free agency trips across the country.
It was truly a mystery as to where he’d sign this summer and it’s a question that we’ve all been pondering for months now, dating back to the middle would want to stay there.
He never counted them out though and they remained a fair destination no matter who Melo was talking to.
The next question is will Melo be able to succeed in the environment he has chosen, and can he help win the title that has always seemingly eluded him no matter where he’s gone in his career?
