One of the biggest question marks for the Pacers moving forward was Lance Stephenson and his future with the team. Some within the Pacers organization were none too pleased with Stephenson’s antics in the Eastern Conference Finals and it was casting doubt over whether he’d be welcomed back this offseason.
According to Michael Marot of The Associated Press, the Indiana Pacers are stepping up their effort to re-sign Stephenson and are now becoming more and more united in that effort.
"For weeks, the Pacers have been speaking to Stephenson with a unified voice: They want him back to take one more shot at an NBA championship, something that seems much more plausible now that LeBron James’ departure has broken up the Big Three Era in Miami."
Not only do the Pacers need Stephenson back to overtake the Miami Heat in the East, but the one player from that team who Stephenson was most associated with — LeBron James — is now in Indiana’s division after returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer.
His antics in the Conference Finals my have cost him some interest on the open market, but it’s clear that the Pacers have had time to cool off and now realize their best chance to win moving forward is with a roster that has Lance Stephenson on it.
