Things got weird in the fifth inning of a game between the minor league Midland RockHounds and Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday. Midland pitcher Blake Hassebrock hit Corpus Christi’s Telvin Nash with a pitch, and a drunk fan came charging down from the stands to confront Hassebrock.

More from MLB

In the incredibly low-quality video clip, we see the fan get absolutely taken out by Midland shortstop Dusty Coleman. The fan gets to his feet and you expect him to receive more of a beat down, but instead the fan is allowed to jaw for awhile longer before umpires and coaches finally escort him from the field.

Evidently there is no security at this particular ball park or perhaps the security guards were too busy flirting with women to bother dealing with the intoxicated rowdy disrupting the contest.

The fan was eventually arrested by someone and charged with public intoxication and criminal trespass. Pitcher Hassebrock described the bizarre incident to the Corpus Christi Caller Times:

"I saw (the fan) out of the corner of my eye and I honestly thought it was someone from their dugout, like a trainer, going to see Nash. Then I realized when he was halfway between the (foul) line and the mound, that he was a fan.My first thought was I just hoped he didn’t have a gun or something weird. If he’s crazy enough to be on the field, who knows what he had on him. By the time he got to me, he stopped and it looked like he came to and regretted being out there in the first place. We didn’t (make contact). This was something out of ‘Eastbound and Down.’ (What he said) was pretty much inaudible, drunken gibberish. (There was) a couple of f-bombs and some slurring. I’m pretty sure he was upset I hit Nash."

In the grand scheme of things, the fan is lucky he didn’t get worse. He could easily have gotten his ass totally kicked by the entire Midland team and no one would have felt sorry for him.
