If you have been paying attention to the MMA news cycle and social media, you will know that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and top contender Chad Mendes are not to fond of each other.
It all started when Aldo withdrew from his scheduled UFC 176 title defense against Mendes, and Mendes said that Aldo cannot run from him forever.
Aldo then fired back by blasting Mendes for supplement use.
The Brazilian seemed to indicate that Mendes uses illegal substances and he dropped the old “who’s the real pussy?” bomb, and now Mendes has responded yet again.
With a post on his Instagram account, Mendes wrote, “Supplement deez nuts, Jose Aldo.”
Now, Mendes is going even further by saying that he believes Aldo is the one who is using unapproved supplements for his body.
“The first time I saw that, for me, this is huge in my mind,” Mendes told Combate, as transcribed by bySherdog. “He’s reaching big time. We have never seen Aldo lash out like this; we’ve never seen him lose his temper. I am in his head. I own him right now.
“This is huge for me. This is huge for me getting in there and taking that belt from him. I’ve never seen him talk like this about anybody. He’s being very disrespectful. I’ve never been caught red-handed or anything. It’s funny to me that as soon as the whole random drug testing started popping up, the next day he is injured and out of the fight. If anything, I could throw that in his face, but whatever.”
Mendes then made it very clear that he believes the featherweight champion is using performance-enhancing drugs.
“I definitely do [think Aldo’s using PEDs]. This is something that’s been ongoing, but for him to all of a sudden just drop out — I mean he drops out of a lot of fights — but I think it’s pretty coincidental,” Aldo said.
“I’d probably say at least 80 percent of fighters are probably taking something. You know, there’s guys that are coming back from injury trying to take it. Whether it’s them trying to survive, pay their mortgage, pay rent or whatever — or guys just trying to get that full advantage to be at the top. So yeah, I think there’s a lot of people taking performance enhancing drugs.”
Mendes and Aldo have been going back-and-forth in social media and now the latest interview is just another verbal assault thrown in the direction of the Brazilian.
With the two men currently waiting for their bout to be rescheduled, the UFC couldn’t be happier to have Mendes and Aldo keeping their names in the headlines with some free promotion.
Sure, it would be ideal if PEDs were not included in the conversation, but the animosity between the two is getting fans talking.
