The Clemson starting quarterback job has not been the most stable position on the team this college football offseason. Heading into the spring there was the three-way battle to replace Tajh Boyd between Chad Kelly, Cole Stoudt and stud freshman Deshaun Watson.

Well as we would come to find out, the battle would work itself out in a sense as Kelly was kicked off the team right after the spring game after a few repeated outbursts, and Stoudt was named the starter shortly thereafter.

So with that, there were some that wondered whether or not Watson would be sitting out this year with a redshirt, but offensive coordinator Chad Morris shot that idea down.

Actually, not only did he shoot it down, he mentioned that Watson will be seeing time on the field against Georgia in the opener.

“Deshaun Watson wasn’t going to red-shirt anyway,” Morris said at Dabo Swinney’s media outing. “He wasn’t going to red-shirt. He was that good and he was going to play whether Chad Kelly was here or not. That was the consensus from the get-go and that was the consensus after watching him the first couple of practices in the spring. We knew that he was going to be special. He is going to play this year and he is going to play at Georgia. Now, what is his role and how much will he play that is all to be determined through the progress. Cole Stoudt is our starter and he deserves it. and we are excited about Cole.”

In what capacity Watson will be playing, that remains to be seen. But with his versatile attributes, it’ll be fun to find out the answer next month.
