Kevin Sumlin responds to Steve Spurrier calling him a ‘great negotiator’
By Jack Crosby
Day two of SEC Media Days has been everything we could have asked for, and more. To get the day started in Hoover, we were treated to South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, who of course is always a thrill to listen to on the microphone. Of the subtle jabs that he took this year at the event, one was directed toward Texas A&M head coach, Kevin Sumlin.

During Spurrier’s session at the podium Tuesday morning, when asked about how well Sumlin has done thus far during his short tenure in the SEC, Spurrier threw him a rather backhanded compliment, saying he was a “great negotiator.”
Luckily for everyone watching, Sumlin was scheduled to take the podium that day, and when he did and was asked about Spurrier’s remarks, he was smart enough to tell the media right off the bat that he’s not taking the bait.
This isn’t surprising that someone as smart and cool as Sumlin wouldn’t want the pot stirred even further. Although, he had to at least appreciate dealing with that question a lot more than he did the Johnny Manziel question he was immediately hit with to begin his session.
The best part about all of this is these two coaches will square off with one another to begin the season next month.
