The moment we were all waiting for came on Tuesday morning when Steve Spurrier took the podium at SEC Media Days.

More from College Football

The head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks has been a quote machine throughout his Hall of Fame career so the 1,200-plus media members and fans watching at home on ESPNU or online waited in anticipation to hear what the Old Ball Coach would have to say, and in typical Spurrier fashion, he had some great quotes.

Spurrier spoke about the outlook for the team in 2014 with a new starting quarterback in Dylan Thompson, Jadeveon Clowney being advised to sit out his junior season and the new rivalry game with Texas A&M. The rivalry game between the Aggies was the source of the most memorable quote from Spurrier today when he referenced The Alamo and Davy Crockett.

“I’m actually from Tennessee and I always thought the hero of the Alamo was Davy Crockett, so this was a new one on me. I’m sure Bonham did some good things. I always thought Davy Crockett was the hero of the Alamo, he and those 33 Tennessee guys that came in there and got killed, so forth.”

Little did we know we would receive a bit of a history lesson from Spurrier during the morning session at SEC Media Days on Tuesday, but when you have him behind a microphone, you never know what you’re gonna get, so it’s best to just sit back and listen, because you may just hear something from out of left field.
