ESPYs 2014: Stuart Scott delivers epic acceptance speech for Jimmy V Award (Video)

In what was one of the more touching moments of the 2014 ESPY Awards, ESPN actually honored one of their own as SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott was presented with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Of course, as you all may know by now, Scott was stricken with cancer a few years ago, and he’s still fighting that fight to this day.

Prior to the award ceremony, there was an amazing video package shown that actually chronicled Scott while he fights this battle. They showed him in a clinical trial at the hospital as he underwent treatment, and also had small clips from his family thrown in. His daughter got so emotional when talking about how important her father is to her, that if you don’t shed at least one tear, you might not have a pulse.

After his name was announced, Scott embraced his family and made his way to the stage. He accepted the award from actor Kiefer Sutherland, and even started his speech off with a joke about his hit show ’24.’

But after the initial joke, everything got very serious and very real as Scott went on to deliver one of the most epic and touching speeches that you will ever see as he talked about his journey.

What a great inspiration! I have been fighting the fight off and on since 1998 and am in a clinical trial at this time. Family means so much. My son sent me this video and said “I think it will help you”. He called me at 10:30 p.m. just to tell me he saw this and just wanted to say “I love you, Mom”. How touching is that? Mr. Scott has it all figured out. “Have a great rest of your life!”
