Pete Rose has had minimal contact with anything involving Major League Baseball since his lifetime ban for betting on baseball. Any event that he has been able to participate in has been through the Cincinnati Reds organization. It sounds like that will be the case once again in 2015 when the All-Star Game takes place in Cincinnati.

More from Cincinnati Reds

Asked about the festivities in 2015, at a time when he will no longer be the commissioner, Bud Selig says that it will be up to the Reds and their best judgment to decide the extent to which Rose will be honored. From Cincinnati.com:

"“It’s sort of subjective, they’ve done some things with Pete, but they’ve been very, very thoughtful and limited,” Selig said. “That’s a subject that I’m sure they’ll discuss in the next year. They’re all here, but that’s not a subject that’s come up.”"

As far Rose’s overall status in terms of his ban ever being lifted or even softened, Selig did not say much. Who can blame him? He doesn’t really have to at this point. Also from Cincinnati.com:

"“It’s a matter under advisement. That’s my standard line,” Selig said. “I’m the judge and that’s where it’ll stay. There’s nothing new.”"

It will be interesting to see if the tone of Rose’s status changes as time continues to pass. As baseball continues to make sense of the PED era and how steroid users will be considered historically, that may or may not have a bearing on Rose’s actions. Regardless of what the future holds in that sense, Rose will be likely be honored in Cincinnati next summer, and appropriately so.
