UFC Fight Night 45 results: Joe Proctor stops Justin Salas in Round 2

Joe Proctor and Justin Salas had a tough act to follow when they entered the cage for a lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 45: Cerrone vs. Miller at the Revel Casino Hotel, after a thrilling war in the flyweight division between potential title challenger John Lineker and Alpetkin Ozkilic.

Proctor (9-2) was looking to string together wins for the first time inside of the UFC, while Salas (12-5) was also hoping to do the same after alternating wins and losses in his last five bouts.

Play-by-play of the bout below:

Round 1: The fight started off with both men swinging some big bombs and Salas landed a huge shot that sent Proctor’s head flying backwards. Salas followed up the punch with a knee, but Proctor quickly recovered and continued moving forward. Salas was cut open over his right eye after getting caught by Proctor while moving forward. Salas landed a nice combination to the body and then upstairs, but Proctor’s counter left hook was consistently finding a home. Proctor shook off a takedown attempt from Salas. There was a nasty hematoma growing by Proctor’s left ear near the end of the round, but his ability to remain in the center of the cage was the difference maker early. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Proctor

Round 2: Salas caught Proctor with another huge shot at the beginning of the round that temporarily stunned Proctor, but the Joe Lauzon trained fighter was not backing down. Salas was able to land a takedown for the first time in the fight, but Proctor bounced back to his feet quickly. It was an even fight at the midway point, but Proctor got the momentum in his corner with a huge shot that staggered Salas. Salas was stumbling around the cage and eventually crumbled to the mat after Proctor jumped on the opening to finish the fight with ground-and-pound. It was a counter left that was the beginning of the end for Salas.

Official Result: Joe Proctor def. Justin Salas via TKO (strikes) – Round 2, 3:27
