John Lineker finally has his weight under control and was looking to prove he is among the elite at flyweight. Lineker faced off against Alptekin Ozkilic on the main card at UFC Fight Night 45: Cerrone vs. Miller at the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Play-by-play of the bout below:
Round 1: Lineker wasted no time showing off his power and rocked Ozkilic with an early shot, but Ozkilic continued to stand in front of Lineer throughout the opening minutes. Ozkilic changed levels and looked for a takedown, before transitioning to the back to drag Lineker to the mat. Lineker got back to his feet and both men were landing their fair share of shots upstairs. Lineker was throwing nothing but bombs and looking to end the fight in one shot. Lineker shot for a takedown at the end of the round and he was able to complete the attempt. Ozkilic bounced back to his feet and the two men ended the round in the center of the cage. Round 2: Lineker landed a big left hook that he followed up with an uppercut to start the second round and Lineker began to pick up the aggression. Ozkilic was doing a good job at surviving Lineker’s attack, but Lineker continued moving forward. Not having to struggle with his weight cut was a big help to Lineker, who was looking as sharp as he has ever looked inside of the UFC. Ozkilic was showing off his toughness by eating the shots from Lineker, but Lineker’s hand speed was a real difference maker as he began mixing in some powerful shots to the body. Round 3: The third round opened up with a wild exchange that got the crowd on their feet. Ozkilic was hurt by Lineker’s power and began to really let his hands go. Ozkilic shot for a takedown a minute into the round, but Lineker shook off the attempt and moved back to the center of the cage. Ozkilic’s nose was busted up by Lineker as he began to utilize the job more effectively. Lineker was landing bomb after bomb in the final frame and Ozkilic appeared to be fading fast. Despite the damage piling up, Ozkilic gave everything he had but it wasn’t enough. Lineker’s power became too much and he finally landed a fight-ending punch with seconds remaining.
