#3, Geno Smith

Now that Brady is out-of-the-way, lets work from the bottom up. Make no mistake, the jury is still out on Geno Smith. That being said, we have to go on what we’ve seen. Smith has been about as consistent as one of Jennifer Anniston’s relationships.

He appeared in all 16 games for the Jets last season, and certainly had his moments – good and bad. The issue that sticks out, he threw 12 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. Even if you threw in Geno’s six rushing touchdowns, the ratio still does not bode well. This will be an interesting year for Geno (and all of the other quarterbacks on this list actually). Most are relatively quick to give a rookie a season or so to get his feet wet.

Well, this year we will find out if Geno is jumping in the pool or leaving. We all know how patient New York fans are. He’ll need to get his 55.8% completion rate above 60, cut down on the turnovers, and generally make better choices for the Jets to have a fighting chance of being competitive in the AFC. Last year is QBR was 35.9. As my friends south of the border would say, that is no bueno.

With the additions of Eric Decker, and a healthy David Nelson and Stephen Hill, the weapons are there for gang green. Not to mention the signing of Chris Johnson in the backfield will make any defense hold their breath for a moment when he touches the ball. For the first time in a long time, the Jets offense has the potential to be a well oiled machine if it gets going in the right direction.

Another issue that Manuel will be facing is Michael Vick breathing down his neck.

If a few things go wrong in the first weeks of the season, Rex Ryan will face some serious pressure to make the switch. In fact, some (okay, just Plaxico Burress) are already saying that Vick will be the opening day starter. I’m not sure that Vick wouldn’t give them the best chance of winning, depending on which Vick you get. Then again, if we are rolling the dice I guess Geno is just the same. Whoever, is taking snaps just needs to focus on throwing to the guys in green and white.
