The Falcon replaces Steve Rogers as Captain America

When it comes to the iconic national figure of Captain Rogers, no one beats WWII military veteran Steve Rogers. That is not to say that others have not donned the red, white, and blue suit and shield of America’s top Captain. Throughout the years comic books have taken their iconic characters and swapped out the men or women behind the masks. In the case of Captain America, Steve Rogers has been replaced several times and is about to be again.

To date, Bucky Barnes is the most non-Steve Rogers to become Captain America. There has been 13 incarnations of Captain America throughout the comics history including Barnes, Rogers, and a revolutionary war ancestor to Steve Rogers, Steven Rogers. Now Captain America will get another identity but not a new one. The Falcon or Sam Wilson.

We saw The Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year and now Sam Wilson will become the new Captain America in the comic series, Avengers Now! In this new series from Marvel Comics, Captain America will be Sam Wilson and Thor will be a woman. In addition Tony Stark is moving to San Francisco and will wear a silver plated suit.

Early in his career, Wilson assumed the role of Captain America for a short period of time so the idea of Wilson becoming the Captain again isn’t new. The question many have is will he replace Steve Rogers on the big screen at some point? That’s a good question as Chris Evans who plays Captain America in Marvels cinematic universe is expected to bow out of the franchise after The Avengers 3. It’s a rumor and a very strong one so that could lead to speculation that Wilson’s The Falcon could take up the helm for universe continuity between comics and film.

Everything in the movie world can change and in the comic world changes happen all the time so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
