Former Alabama QB Parker McLeod transferring to Western Kentucky

Not everyone is enamored by Nick Saban. Former Alabama quarterback Parker McLeod has decided to transfer to Western Kentucky, where he can compete for a starting job — something he could not do at Alabama.

"Parker  , making him the fifth quarterback to transfer away from the Crimson Tide under Nick Saban‘s watch. This year’s starting quarterback race at Alabama is between Blake Sims and Florida State transfer Jacob Cocker. Saban said Thursday there is no rush to announce a starting quarterback for the season at this time. decided to transfer out of Alabama in May It is expected McLeod will not be eligible to play for Western Kentucky until 2015. NCAA transfer rules would require McLeod to sit out the 2014 season. That would give McLeod a year to prepare for a run at the starting job under center in 2015. He will arrive at Western Kentucky with three years of eligibility."

The move seemed to make sense for everyone. unfortunately, McLeod was not a fit at Alabama in the capacity that he wanted to be. He wanted so badly to start that he was willing to lose his fifth year.

Parker will be the fifth quarterback to transfer under Nick Saban’s seven-year regime in Alabama. While on the surface the transfers might reflect negatively on Saban’s character, it’s more than likely the opposite. Saban’s ability to coach and recruit drives immense amounts of talent at the quarterback position to his program. At some point, there’s only room enough for a few cooks in the kitchen. McLeod was the odd man out.
