First image from Pixels released

We may still have quite a bit of time until the arcade-style adventure Pixels hits theaters nationwide – just under a year for those of you wondering – but thankfully that doesn’t mean that we have to wait quite that long to get a peek at what we can expect from the film.

With the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, you can expect quite a few of the nation’s biggest blockbusters, and even some of the smaller films, start to make the rounds and release some tidbits from their upcoming projects.

In the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly, old-school gamers can finally get a look at some of the stars of the upcoming Happy Madison production Pixels.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the premise of the film yet, let me set the scene for you. The world, more specifically New York, has been attacked by some of the world’s most classic video game characters from the 80’s.

Yeah…I know you’re picturing Mario running down the street with a wrench in his hand mugging someone, aren’t you?

In any case, now the President of the United States, who is played in the film by funnyman Kevin James, has put together a crack team of old-school games who call themselves the “Arcaders” to help fight off these pesky pixelated characters before the city is destroyed.

In the image, which you can see below, you see Adam Sandler, Frozen actor Josh Gad, Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, and True Detective actress Michelle Monaghan ready for action.

Let me stop you before you say the first thing that is coming to your mind right now…what in the world is up with Peter Dinklage’s hair? Maybe his character is still stuck in the good old days.

The feature length presentation is set to be directed by Percy Jackson and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus. The screenplay for the film is being written by screenwriters Timothy Dowling and Tim Herlihy based off of the story by Jean.

Pixels definitely has a good cast of characters to work with. Already attached to the project is Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, Frozen’s Josh Gad, True Detective’s Michelle Monaghan, along with Happy Madison regulars Adam Sandler and Kevin James.

What do you think of the new image from the upcoming film Pixels? What kind of shenanigans do you think the Arcaders will gets themselves into while defending the world from some of the greatest video gam characters ever known? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Pixels is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2015.
