Cole Hamels if he were put on the trade block by the Phillies would be one of the hottest deadline commodities out there, but unfortunately for teams in need of pitching, the Phillies are not currently looking to shop Hamels.

More from MLB

A source tells Rob Bradford of WEEI that, for now, the 30-year-old starting pitcher will be staying put in Philadelphia.

This is potentially bad news for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Red Sox and others who were rumored to be interested in making a deal for the left-hander.

Hamels is just 3-5 on the season for lowly Philadelphia, but his ERA is solid at 2.93. Then again, look at the further numbers and his season doesn’t look so great. His WHIP is 1.211, higher than at any time since 2009. This indicates that he could have a bad slump in his near future.

Hamels also has a no-trade clause that allows him to block a deal to 20 teams. That obviously complicates matters for the Phillies if they want to shop him around. Several of the teams rumored to be interested in him are on the blocked list.

Interestingly, the Yankees are not on the blocked list, but it’s doubtful that the Yankees would have enough ammo to make a trade happen. They certainly wouldn’t shy away from adding Hamels’ huge contract, which will pay him $90 million through 2018. These are the Yankees after all.

It’s a moot point because, for now, the Phillies will hold on to Hamels. But get back to them in a couple days.
