Things around the New York Jets organization are optimistic heading into the 2014 season. They added some star players like running back Chris Johnson and wide receiver Eric Decker, and drafted safety Calvin Pryor. Decker thinks the Jets have the tools to get past 8-8 and into the post season.

“It depends on how we work and how we get to the point and what the leadership is like in the locker room. The coaches get us organized, but the players make it go,” Decker told the New York Post.

His head coach, Rex Ryan, is a little bit more confident.

“I believe we’re better than that. I believe we’re a lot better than that,” Ryan said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “Eight-and-eight would be a hell of a disappointment for us. I’m just telling you that I believe this team is on the cusp of doing some special things. … I’m confident we will be a playoff team.”

Decker went to the Super Bowl in 2014 with the Denver Broncos and is drawing on that experience to help lead the Jets into the post season.

“That’s what I really learned the last couple of years being around Peyton Manning, being around Champ Bailey, some of the leaders in the Broncos locker room. If we find our identity as players, if we chip and work … that’s all you’ve got to do really is give yourself a chance to win in any game and you have a chance to make a playoff run. You’ve seen in the past the New York Giants stumbled around, got hot in the end and won a Super Bowl.”
