There is no question coming into the 2014 NFL season that Toby Gerhart will be one of the focal points for the offense of the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the departure of Maurice Jones-Drew, there really is no other option in the backfield for the Jaguars this season.

That’s why it’s no surprise that the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator, Jedd Fisch, recently expressed to the Florida Times-Union that Gerhart will no doubt be the workhorse on the offensive side of the ball out of the backfield.

And he put it in about the simplest terms that one possibly could.

“Toby will be our workhorse,” Fisch said.

That wasn’t all that he had to say about his new toy in the backfield, however. Fisch also went on to discuss just how versatile Gerhart is with all he could do.

“Toby has the ability to do it all,” Fisch said. “He can catch it well. He can pass protect well, and he’s going to be in the game a lot — third down, base downs, short-yardage, passing downs.”

Gerhart has spent the first few years of his NFL career as a solid backup with the Minnesota Vikings to one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game in Adrian Peterson.

Now, though, it’s time to take center stage all to himself in Jacksonville, and it’s nice to see that his coaching staff believe the sky is the limit.
