The Los Angeles Angels acquired Huston Street from the San Diego Padres earlier this week, a deal they had reportedly been working on for six weeks. It was quite the taxing scenario but most trades involving current or former All-Star players are.

More from Los Angeles Angels

It was the second move aided to assist the Angels failing bullpen as just weeks earlier the team acquired Jason Grilli from the Pittsburgh Pirates who has found a resurgence in Southern California. So what’s next for the Los Angeles Angels? An additional bat? Some more speed? Well, according to general manager Jerry DiPoto the Angels don’t plan to make any more deals unless there is an injury to the starting pitching rotation.

That might not be what fans want to hear as the Angels attempt to keep pace with the Oakland Athletics and fend off the Seattle Mariners, two teams who are said to be active in the trade market (or in the case of the A’s, have already made a big move).

Still, just 1.5 games out of first place and holding a 58-38 record, there aren’t a lot of holes to fill for the Angels who have seemingly plugged what few leaks they had. Of course, DiPoto could just be bluffing and the Angels may have another move or two up their sleeve, though that doesn’t seem likely at this point.

If not for the Oakland A’s and their 60-37 record, the Los Angeles Angels would be running away with the best record in Major League Baseball, four games ahead of the Detroit Tigers who own the third best record.
