The Atlanta Hawks had a surprising 2013-2014 season. After losing center Al Horford for the season, it looked like the Hawks were destined for the NBA Draft Lottery. Instead, the Hawks were led to the postseason by big man Paul Millsap and point guard Jeff Teague. Millsap wound up being the biggest steal of the 2013 offseason – the Hawks signed him to a two-year, $19 million deal. At one point, they looked like they would be trading Teague, but after matching the offer sheet he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013, it looks like he is an important part of their future.

The Hawks wanted to make a big splash this offeason and have agreed to deals with Kent Bazemore and Thabo Sefolosha. They have also been tied to the likes of Lance Stephenson, Pau Gasol and Luol Deng, but Stephenson inked a deal with the Charlotte Hornets, Gasol wound up with the Chicago Bulls and Deng will be replacing LeBron James in Miami.

According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Hawks could still spend almost $9 million in free agency and he expects them to do just that.

"The Atlanta Hawks currently have about $2.08 million in space and could open up an additional $6.75 million more by renouncing the cap holds on Elton Brand and Gustavo Ayon, giving them a possible $8.83 million to spend. The Hawks are still very much engaged on the free agent front so spending their cash is likely."

The Hawks have reportedly shown interest in Greg Monroe, but they’d almost certainly have to work out a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons to acquire the talented restricted free agent.
