With the College Football Playoff set to make set to debut this season, there is now a “Power Five” in college football, consisting of the five major conferences – the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 and Southeastern Conference.

The winner of each of those conferences will be assured of a spot in one of the major bowl games (formally known as the BCS bowls) and have an excellent shot of getting into the four-team tournament at the end of the season.

All of those conferences with the exception of the Big 12 are divided into two divisions and after the regular season, they play a title game between the winner of each division to crown the conference champion. Both the ACC and SEC play eight conference games and four non-conference games before the title game while the Big 12 teams play nine conference games, squaring off against every team in the conference.

The Big 12 has been critical of the eight-game conference schedule and at ACC media day on Monday, Florida State Seminoles’ head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters it was “ridiculous” the Big 12 doesn’t play a title game.

“And by the way I think every conference should have to have one,” Fisher said via Jake Trotter of ESPN.com. “We got a (national) champion and not everyone plays the same number of games and does the same thing.”

Baylor Bears’ coach Art Briles was not happy with Fisher’s comments.

“Don’t come down here to Texas and try to tell me how to do mine,” Briles said from Big 12 media days in Dallas. “Jimbo Fisher needs to worry about the ACC. That’s what he needs to worry about.

“I’m not telling him how to do their business.”

Fisher also drew the ire of former Seminoles and current West Virginia Mountaineers’ quarterback Clint Trickett.
