Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus has had a rough offseason. From two arrests that included synthetic marijuana and drag racing charges and a recent failed conditioning test, Dareus has a lot to figure out before the season begins.

More from Buffalo Bills

Luckily for the Bills, their promising defensive lineman is working to get one of those situations under control.

According to Syracuse.com, Dareus has agreed to enter a substance abuse program in hopes of getting his drug charges in Alabama dropped.

From the report:

"Dareus, who is from Alabama and played for the Crimson Tide, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after being stopped by a state trooper on May 5.The charges will be dismissed and potentially expunged should the 2011 first-round draft pick successfully complete the program.Giddens referred to Dareus as “a humble, gentle giant of a young man, who needs some mentors.”This marks the first positive step during what’s been a troubled offseason for Dareus."

One of the next steps for Dareus will be working to pass his conditioning test.

There is no doubt that Dareus is one of the most talented young defenders in the league, but his offseason struggles could raise some concerns for the Bills.

The team did say that they have no plans to release Dareus despite the two offseason arrests, but if he continues to find himself in trouble off of the field he could leave the team with no option.

Let’s hope Dareus can get himself together before reaching that point.
