While we don’t know how well he is going to perform yet at the NFL level, we found out last college football season that former Fresno State QB Derek Carr is one of the best players to ever grace the Mountain West Conference. On Tuesday he was rewarded for his efforts as he became the first member of the school to be named the Mountain West Male Athlete of the Year.

Considering that he had the Bulldogs making a push for a BCS bid throughout much of the season last year, it’s no surprise that he was bestowed with this honor.
In leading Fresno State through that amazing season last year, Carr was maybe the most efficient quarterback in the country, throwing for a mind-blowing 5,083 yards and 50 touchdowns with just eight interceptions.
In the end, while they did not earn that BCS bid, the Bulldogs and Carr earned a bid to play USC in a bowl game.
Following the efforts of last season, Carr was high on a lot of people’s draft boards and was selected in the second round by the Oakland Raiders.
