Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor appears to not have taken advantage of the second chance he was given by the state of Georgia and Clarke County. The Athens Banner-Herald is reporting that Taylor was arrested for the second time this offseason, this time for felony aggravated assault charges.

More from College Football

Taylor was one of four players involved in a “double-dipping” scheme and was charged with theft by deception back in March. He entered a pre-trail diversion program where he was to complete 40 hours of community service and not be arrested for anything else.

The arrest for felony aggravated assault violates that term and it appears he’s on the way to two different charges now. However, details of the incident that led to Taylor’s arrest have yet to be released to the media.

Georgia has an automatic suspension policy for any felony arrest and there is a committee process that recommends a suspension, dismissal or athletic aide being reduced or cancelled. Given this is the second arrest in one offseason, it’s hard to see how Mark Richt can keep Taylor on the team unless charges in this case are dropped.

On the football field, this arrest may not be a major blow to the Georgia defensive line. Taylor was a third-string defensive tackle on the depth chart and wasn’t overly productive in this first two seasons in Athens.

Last season, Taylor had nine tackles, one and a half tackles for loss and a sack.

No comment has been made by Richt or the athletic department at the time of publication.
