Is the iPhone 6 really this ugly?

As summer is quickly fading into fall, with the month of July nearing completion, the window in which Apple consumers anticipate most is right around the corner.  The release of iOS 8 is slated for September, and all signs point to that being the same timeframe for the next iteration of the smartphone, the iPhone 6.  However, there’s so mixed news to share.

More from Technology

First the good news, as summer has continued on, there have been increasingly more and more leaks surrounding the iPhone 6.  With this trend continuing, and even growing, it would stand to reason that Apple has in fact moved the next iPhone into the mass production stages.  If the iPhone 6 is going to hit its suspected September launch window, this is a great thing.

Unfortunately, there is some bad news.  Multiple leaks showing the back of what is suspected to be the iPhone 6 have been met with criticism due to just how ugly the phone is.  Thanks to some new leaks, it looks like the hope that the phone may not be as hideous as the original leaks depicted may not come to fruition.

It has been rumored that schematics for both the new iPhone 6 and the “iPhone Air” phablet have been out for some time, and they have been the basis for many of the mock-up designs that have surfaced.

With ugly black strips covering the antenna on the back of the iPhone 6, the newest phone from Apple looked pretty unappealing.  However, Nikkei, a Japanese news agency, reported that the phone will look significantly different than the mockups.

While Nikkei’s report was great news for worried Apple fans, a new leak from uSwitch makes it look like Nikkei may have been off on their original report.  In the report by uSwitch, the Apple logo is embedded into the phone for the first time, but also of note, the thick plastic inserts on the phone are still present.

Hopefully the unwanted plastic inserts are just placeholders on the mockups, but nothing will be confirmed until Apple makes the official iPhone 6 announcement later this year.  In the meantime, check out the photos from uSwitch with the embedded Apple logo.
