The New York Yankees are trying to contend in the AL East this year but they’re going to need pitching to stay up with the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and even the Seattle Mariners as they contend with the heavy hitters and fast risers in the American League.

More from MLB Trade Rumors

The loss of Masahiro Tanaka was a brutal blow to the rotation but it only hardens the Yankees resolve to find starting pitching on the trade market. One name that has been kicked at the Yankees more than one time is that of Cliff Lee, who the Philadelphia Phillies are willing to deal despite most of the trade talk there trying to force its way towards Cole Hamels.

According to Fox Sports insider Jon Morosi, the Yankees may be interested in trying to acquire Cliff Lee and that may be a hot rumor at the moment, but the needle in the balloon comes in the form of Lee having the Bombers on his no-trade list.

Cliff Lee has not wanted to play for the Yankees since in infamous trip to Yankee Stadium in which his wife was spit on by fans. The story has taken on a life of its own at this point but the bottom line is that Lee has a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to the Yankees and their being on his no-trade list doesn’t come as much of a surprise to many.
