On Tuesday afternoon the San Diego Chargers signed running back Danny Woodhead to a two-year contract extension, which now leaves the question of how the team’s backfield will work with him and newly-acquired Donald Brown splitting the carries. Well according to Mike Garafolo, while Woodhead will provide the flash, Brown will be doing the heavy lifting, so to speak.

This makes sense, and in the end, the Chargers could end up having one of the more effective backfields in the AFC if this all comes together the right way.

As was seen last season with his 1,034 all-purpose yards he provided, Woodhead can beat you in a variety of ways, and to keep him as healthy as possible, it’s essential to keep him away from running in between the tackles as much as possible.

In his first five years in the league, all with the Indianapolis Colts, Brown has proven that he can be an effective in-between-the-tackles rusher, and could most certainly carry the weight on in San Diego as far as that goes.
