The Orlando Magic cut long tenured guard Jameer Nelson earlier this offseason but the interest in him was there from other teams even if it wasn’t headline grabbing news.

Barring something like a failed physical, which as with Rashard Lewis can indeed happen, Nelson looks to be finding a home with the Dallas Mavericks but that wasn’t before an Eastern Conference titans came knocking with possible interest.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Chicago Bulls were serious suitors for Jameer Nelson before he decided to get serious about joining the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago decided to find other point guards.

The Bulls went out and re-signed Kirk Hinrich to a two-year deal and added could-be breakout star Aaron Brooks this week as well putting them with a string of guards to pad the roster with.

That made Nelson not that valuable to the Bulls but there was still probable interest in seeing if he’d sign for something like the veteran minimum. That’s not the case though as the Mavericks have moved in and will be signing Nelson this week, thus taking a major veteran off the market.
