After seeing a preview for the game at E3 2014 last month, the excitement for Star Wars Battlefront is, as expected, at a high level. Along with the rebirth of the film series with Star Wars Episode VII, the next couple of years are shaping up to be fun for fans of the franchise.
EA knows this, and is hoping to capitalize of the hype.
The company hasn’t set a firm release date for Battlefront just yet, but, if EA could pick any time to release the game, it would be alongside the launch of Episode VII.
During the company’s conference call with investors on Tuesday, executive vice president of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund said that, despite the game having now official link to the movie, the company would like to see the game released during the film’s release window.
“What we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made,” Soderlund said. “And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars.”
He added: “Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it.”
Star Wars Episode VII is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 18, 2015, which means, if EA has its way, fans may not get their hands on Battlefront until Holiday 2015.
A first look at full gameplay of Battlefront is expected in Spring 2015.
