NFL rumors: Aldon Smith, Roger Goodell to meet about future soon

The San Francisco 49ers and Adon Smith will be learning whether or not the troubled linebacker will be facing suspension from the league “in the near future.”

According to reports, Smith is set to fly out to New York to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about his multiple run-ins with the law.

From ESPN.com:

"According to an NFL source, Smith is expected to fly to New York sometime in the near future. It could be as soon as next week, although an exact date has not been set.The meeting will be held to discuss his off-field issues with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Potential discipline could be made by Goodell shortly after the meeting. Goodell has routinely met with troubled players at the league offices before making disciplinary decisions."

Smith reported to training camp with the rest of his teammates on Wednesday, and he is expected to take the field for the first practice on Thursday.

Whether or not he will be on the field with the team during the beginning of the regular season remains to be seen.
