All 30 NHL teams will tell you that their team has a chance to be a contender for the Stanley Cup in the 2014-15 season. Even the teams that are considered to be long shots like the Sabres, Oilers, and Islanders will tell you that their goal next season is to win the Cup.

Also amongst the 30 teams are franchises that are in denial. They think their current core of players is good enough and gives them a chance to win. However, this denial only serves to avoid the inevitable truth: their time as a contender has either passed or in some cases, never materialized and it is time to begin a rebuild.
