Training camps around the NFL are getting kicked off. For Washington Redskins defensive lineman Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowen, they’ll start camp on the active/physically unable to perform list.

It doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise for either player. Bowen, 30, is less than eight months removed from microfracture surgery. The Redskins kept him on the roster, costing them $7 million against the camp and that speaks volumes to how confident the Redskins are about him recovering from the injury.

Hatcher, a free agent signing this offseason from their NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys, is roughly five weeks removed from an arthroscopic procedure done on his knee that had a rehab timetable of four to six weeks. No reason to pressure Hatcher to return if an extra week would ensure that he is healthy.

Being on the PUP list still counts the players against the 90-man roster limit and they can attend meetings but cannot practice.
