Rex Ryan: New York Jets won’t put timetable on QB decision
By Jack Crosby
For months we’ve all heard the back and forth about whether or not there is a legitimate quarterback battle within the New York Jets organization between Michael Vick and Geno Smith. Well all the speculation will soon start coming to an end as training camp opens up, and eventually one of the two will be named the definitive signal caller of the Jets.

But as for when we can expect that announcement, well head coach Rex Ryan says that he’s not putting a timetable on that decision.
“I love the fact that we have a competition,” Ryan said. “I want to have competition at every position. And for us to say, ‘You know, this guy is specifically going to be the quarterback or you want to have it at a certain date.'”
“I don’t know if that is really appropriate. I think you let this competition play out. I am excited about our competition at all positions and at the appropriate time, that we think is the appropriate time to name a starting quarterback, we certainly will.”
This will certainly be one of the more high-profile battles to watch throughout all of the NFL training camps, and not just because it’s the New York Jets, but because of the two individuals involved with the veteran in Vick and the second-year player in Smith, who struggled mightily as a rookie last season.
