On Sept. 27 at UFC 178 in Las Vegas, Nevada, UFC featherweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will be facing off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

More from MMA

Poirier and McGregor have exchanged their fair share of shots in social media as they engage in a war of words, but they will finally get to settle the score when they step into the cage against one another.

While McGregor is ranked No. 10 in the featherweight division, the No. 6-ranked Poirier believes he is McGregor’s toughest test and he believes that he will be able to “whup his ass.”

From MMA Fight Corner:

"“He just runs his mouth a little bit too much,” Poirier added. “He just kind of brings that kind of hatred towards himself. But, at the same time, people want to see him fight. So he’s doing a job of promoting the sport and the featherweight division. But he just got dealt a bad hand this time.”“I’m the man – period. I’m the best in the division. I’m going to be the champion.”"

"“He’s just poking at something that doesn’t matter. When it’s all said and done – September 27 – me and Conor McGregor are going to step in. His fans can’t come with him. His coaches and friends can’t come with him. It’s going to be me and him and I’m going to whup his ass.”"

The build up for UFC 178 is just getting started, so it will be fascinating to see how these two featherweights continue to poke each other as they look for the mental edge leading up to their bout this fall.

One thing is for certain: We can expect fireworks when the top 10 featherweights enter the Octagon for a chance to take the next step towards earning a shot at the title.
