The basketball world is holding its breath as the Kevin Love trade drama continues to play out as he seems to be inching closer and closer to becoming a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. That’s a deal that took another step forward on Thursday when the Cleveland Cavaliers signed No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins to his rookie scale contract.

While that’s usually just a formality these days, the fact of the matter is that Wiggins being so heavily mentioned in the Love trade talks seems to suggest that he could be a part of a final deal which is why his signing is so critical at this point.

The reason it’s such a big deal is because the Cavaliers can now not trade Wiggins for 30 days, which means Kevin Love won’t be acquired by the Cavaliers if he’s to be acquired, until near the end of August.

What this now does is it allows the Cavaliers to both play hardball with the Wolves and insist that if an immediate deal is to be done then Wiggins cannot be a part of it. This also opens up the possibility of elongated negotiations, as Wiggins cannot be traded until August 23rd, which is 30 days after today.
