It’s never too early to start thinking about next season, especially when it comes to college hoops.

As soon as the NCAA basketball national champion is crowned, coaches begin their recruiting trips, next year’s freshman are already contemplating their NBA prospects, and fans are already setting up shop in Tent City at Duke University.

March Madness feels like it just ended, and Midnight Madness is still three months away, yet the college basketball news seems to filter year long.

There are always a few certainties when it comes to college hoops – Duke and Kentucky will be good, the ACC and Big Ten will jockey for the most teams in the top 25, and Mike Krzyzewski will have some monument or street named after him.

A team from a small, unknown school will rise from obscurity to capture the national attention, and a freshman sensation will become the focus of the “one and done” argument.

Dick Vitale will yell, Jay Bilas will be tall, and Jim Boeheim will lose more hair.

None of these are surprises or things that could even remotely qualify as “bold predictions”, but there are a number of things coming up in the 2014-15 season that will definitely fit that category.

As with my 5 bold predictions for the college football season, I don’t want to bore readers with the typical predictions of who will win each conference, or which freshman will have the biggest impact, or even who will end up on top of the mountain when the 2015 NCAA Tournament is done.

Instead, I’ll give you 5 bold predictions that are a little off the beaten path.
