RFA 16 kicked off their main card at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado live on AXS TV in the flyweight division with a bout between Sid Bice (3-0) and Eric Shelton (3-0).
It was a match up between two undefeated flyweight prospects that could continue to make a name for themselves with an impressive performance on the televised broadcast.

Round 1: After a brief feeling out process, the two men had a heavy exchange in the center of the cage. Bice landed a slick lead uppercut and Shelton answered with a leg kick. The footwork from both fighters was impressive. Brice was stalking Shelton and kept Shelton’s back to the cage. Shelton was circling to Bice’s right, but avoided a heavy shot and changed levels for a takedown. Bice was able to shake off the takedown attempt after some positioning against the cage and answered with a successful takedown of his own. While Bice was working inside of Shelton’s guard, he got caught in a triangle. Bice was able to work his way out of danger but remained in Shelton’s guard. Shelton attempted to get out from the bottom, but ended up getting mounted. After Bice went for an armbar, Shelton revered position and ended up on top before both men got back to their feet as the round came to an end. Shelton ended the round with a takedown. Round 2: Bice landed a takedown early on in the second and began raining down ground-and-pound. Shelton was threatening with submission attempts, but Bice was able to stay out of any serious danger. It was all Bice from the top in the second round. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Bice (19-19)
Round 3: The final round started with the two men throwing leather in the center of the cage. As the two men exchanged, Shelton was caught with a low blow that temporarily brought the bout to a halt. When the action restarted, Bice was controlling the center of the cage until shooting for the takedown and once again getting the fight to the mat. Shelton got back to his feet and picked up the aggression with under two minutes to go. Shelton was able to drag Bice to the mat and took his back as he searched for a rear-naked choke. Shelton threw some shots to try to loosen up Bice, who got back to his feet. Bice tried to fall backwards in an attempt to get Shelton off his back, but he was unsuccessful. Shelton continued working for the choke, but the final bell sounded. It was a very close fight. The first round could have gone either way. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Shelton (29-28, Shelton)
