The Los Angeles Dodgers would reportedly ‘kill’ to trade Matt Kemp and I’m guessing he’s not the only albatross of a salary they’d like to get off their books. Despite that, the Dodgers look in prime condition to challenge the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

Given that, they’re not close to making any trades, this according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a bit of a predicament as they don’t have a ton of tradeable assets. They do have talented young prospects, but it’s questionable if the team wants to move them, especially considering teams like the Tampa Bay Rays are demanding such in exchange for David Price.

Also contributing are the salaries of the players the Dodgers do want to trade. Teams simply aren’t going to give up any assets of value to the Dodgers for a Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier which has put Los Angeles into a bind.

Of course, this isn’t to say the Los Angeles Dodgers won’t make a trade before the July 31st non-waiver deadline, but as of right now things seem rather quiet.

If there is any good news, the San Francisco Giants did acquire Jake Peavy and gave up two of their better prospects to do so. That should take their northern rival out of the chase for Price, who seems to be the Dodgers preferred target. Still, such an acquisition would require Los Angeles to part with five-tool prospect Joc Pederson, something the team is understandably cautious doing.
