In the main event of RFA 16 on AXS TV Friday night, Josh Copeland (8-0) and Jan Jorgensen (7-0, 1 NC) squared off in a battle of unbeatens for the inaugural heavyweight championship at 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
RFA has turned into a feeder league for the UFC, so an impressive win could lead to a call from the top promotion in the sport.
Play-by-play from Copeland vs. Jorgensen can be seen below:
Round 1: Copeland opened up with an overhand right and he immediately began throwing bombs. Jorgensen didn’t back down and stayed right in front of Copeland, but he was eating a shot every time he came jumping in. Jorgensen was cut within the first minute of the bout. Copeland was doing a great job snapping off his jab and that set up a right hand after switching to southpaw that rocked Jorgensen. Jorgensen kept coming forward, however, but he was eating jab after jab. Jorgensen eventually closed the distance and landed some uppercuts from the clinch, but Copeland broke free and went back to the center of the cage. Copeland landed a huge overhand right that sent Jorgensen stumbling to the cage. Copeland pressed Jorgensen along the fence and peppered away with some dirty boxing while keeping up his pace. Jorgensen’s face was a bloody mess. Copeland landed a huge shot as they separated and he followed it up with a vicious combination that dropped Jorgensen right to the mat. It was complete domination from Copeland, who becomes the inaugural RFA heavyweight champion.
