The South Carolina Gamecocks may be the hottest team in the country on the recruiting trail. Over the weekend, they landed two of the top junior college prospects in the country in 4-Star strong-side defensive end Marquavius Lewis and 4-Star inside linebacker Davon Durant. Their pledges give the Gamecocks 24 verbal commitments in the class of 2015 and their class now ranks third nationally according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings, trailing only two other SEC powers, the Alabama Crimson Tide (1) and Texas A&M Aggies (2).

Before Lewis and Durant decided to become Gamecocks, head coach Steve Spurrier’s squad landed their first commitment in the class of 2016 when 4-Star athlete Kyle Davis gave his pledge to the Gamecocks.

“It feels pretty great to be a Gamecock!” Davis told 247Sports following making his commitment official Saturday evening by talking to head coach Steve Spurrier. “South Carolina just felt like home and plus Coach Spurrier puts guys into the league.”

The 6’3, 220-pounder is from Lawrenceville, Georgia and attends Archer High School. The Gamecocks always hit the talent-rich state of Georgia hard – six of their 24 commitments in the class of 2015 are from Georgia. That includes 3-Star tight end Connor Redmond, Davis’ teammate at Archer. Redmond pledged to the Gamecocks just over a month ago.

Davis is ranked as the country’s 18th-best athlete, the 25th-best prospect in the state of Georgia and the 246th-best overall prospect in the class of 2016 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Davis also holds offers from the Boston College Eagles, Duke Blue Devils, Florida Gators, Ole Miss Rebels and Wisconsin Badgers, among others.
