The Washington Redskins are expected to go through an offensive resurgence in 2014. Their new head coach, Jay Gruden, is one of the better offensive minds in the game of football. They made the biggest move of the offseason by bringing in DeSean Jackson after he was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. And not to mention, Robert Griffin III is said to be back to 2012 form.

But, what if none of these guys are really the key to the offense breaking out? What if it’s second-year running back Chris Thompson?

Griffin certainly thinks it can be.

While speaking to the media during Redskins camp recently, Griffin made it known pretty clearly that not only will Thompson have a role in the offense this season, but he wants to see him become what Darren Sproles was to the New Orleans Saints, and possibly could be for the Eagles this season.

If everything goes well, if anyone can pull off this feat, it’s Thompson.

Although accruing a history of severe injuries that derailed his time at Florida State, including a neck injury that almost ended his career, the Redskins took a chance on Thompson late in the draft in the fifth round. He spent most of his time in his rookie year on special teams, but now it seems like they’re looking for him to contribute a lot more in 2014.
