The Philadelphia Phillies know that replenishing their minor league system will likely take a few years of hard work or the trading of ace pitcher Cole Hamels. Understanding that, they’ve made the young southpaw available for trade.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

Multiple teams are said to be interested in the Southern California native, including the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Over the past few weeks the Dodgers have been linked to both Jon Lester and David Price, though Lester’s price tag is said to be too high for a rental while Price may no longer be on the market thanks to the Tampa Bay Rays winning ways.

That could be why the Dodgers are shifting their focus to Cole Hamels according to Fox Sports’s Jon Morosi.

Of course, Hamels isn’t going to come cheaply and would likely require a combination of some of the Dodgers’ most premier minor league prospects. You know, the same prospects who the Dodgers allegedly wouldn’t trade for David Price.

Given that, it seems difficult to think the two sides would be able to find a middle ground though Cole Hamels would likely be thrilled to pitch in Los Angeles considering it’s a stones throw from his home in San Diego.

For now it does not appear that the two are in serious discussions about a trade and Dodgers general manger Ned Coletti has previously stated he may not make any significant move before the deadline. Still, if the Dodgers could somehow work something out, an addition of Cole Hamels would understandably make them favorites going into October.
