The Buffalo Bills released their first depth chart of 2014 on their Twitter account. In a move that might not be so surprising, the Bills listed Spiller as the starting running back over Fred Jackson.

The two back system in Buffalo is interesting. For an outsider it might seem like an obvious that Spiller would be the starting running back, and in 2014 he started 10 games. Jackson started those other six games and when you break down touches, Jackson finished with 253 touches compared to an Spiller’s 235.

Now Spiller did battle through injuries last season which could explain those numbers.

You wouldn’t think the Bills would abandon their two back system to focus on Spiller, which was the second best in the NFL in 2013 averaging 144.2 yards per game. When you break down specifically carries the numbers are a lot more even, with Spiller getting 202 to Jackson’s 206.
