Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito join The Jungle Book

Over the course of the past couple weeks, the cast of the upcoming live-action version of the classic Walt Disney animated feature The Jungle Book has made a number of key additions. Now, two pretty big stars are adding their names to the list of people who will help bring the tale to life on the big screen.

About two weeks ago, it was announced that newcomer Neel Seethi would be joining the cast of The Jungle Book as the lead character Mowgli.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, legendary actor Christopher Walken and Once Upon a Time actor Giancarlo Esposito have signed on to lend their voices the new film.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Walken will be lending his voice to the character King Louie, while Esposito will be voicing Akela.

Everyone knows who Christopher Walken is…I mean, come on; however, some may not know Esposito – at least not by name. If you don’t recognize him as Sidney Glass from the hit ABC Original Series Once Upon a Time, you will certainly remember him as meth kingpin Gustavo Fring from the AMC series Breaking Bad.

In many circles, the film is being referred to as a live-action film; however, as The Hollywood Reporter points out, it is really more of a hybrid film.

You see, the only actor who will actually be featured on the screen will be Seethi who plays Mowgli. All of the other characters will be voiced by their respective actor and brought to life on the screen by the art of CG.

In any case, the film will be something that the entire family will enjoy. Parents will be taken back to the day when they were a child watching this for the first time, and their children will be given an opportunity to discover the magic that brought happiness to so many others long before they were born.

The Jungle Book is being directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau. The script for the film is being developed by fairly new screenwriter Justin Marks. The story is obviously based off of the 1894 novel of the same name by Rudyard Kipling.

The film already boasts a number of spectacular talents. Legendary actor Ben Kingsley, who most recently reprised his role of Trevor Slattery in the Marvel one-shot All Hail the King, will be lending his voice to the film as Bagheera

In addition to Kingsley, Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson has been brought on to play the role of Kaa and Thor: The Dark World actor Idris Elba has been brought on to play the villainous Shere Khan. Also, 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined the cast as Raksha.

The Jungle Book is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2015.
