The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching and that means some of the bigger names we’ve heard discussed in the recent days will keep coming up in big ways as teams begin to get desperate for deals in the 11th hour.

More from Boston Red Sox

One name that has been mentioned a lot recently is Boston Red Sox ace Jon Lester, who still hasn’t signed a long term extension with the team but is willing to re-sign with the Sox in the offseason if he’s traded.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to get more active as the deadline approaches and their path could cross with that of Lester and the Red Sox as Nick Cafardo from the Boston Globe reports that the Pirates could get in on a Lester trade offer in the next few days.

Everyone from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Baltimore Orioles have been rumored with Lester but so far nothing has happened. It could turn out that a team like the Pirates swoop in and acquire him but it’s also likely that nothing at all gets done and Lester is still with the Red Sox when the deadline passes later this week.
